Fontwell St Patrick's Day racing: Solace for Moore after Cheltenham heartbreak
On Friday, Moore, a crowd of 60,000 at Cheltenham and many more on TV couldn’t believe what they saw as the trainer’s stable Goshen unseated jockey Jamie Moore at the last while many lengths clear in the JCB Triumph Hurdle. Punters and fellow trainers and jockeys were quick to wish the Moores well and predict great things in the future for Goshen, whose Cheltenham chances were highlighted in the Observer. But at least Moore snr had a happier day on Saturday when he notched a double at Fontwell’s St Patrick’s meeting. The fixture – squeezed in just a few days before all horse racing in England was called off for the foreseeable future – featured wins for Moore runners Deejab (11/2 ridden by Tom Cheesman) and Twenty Twenty (2/1 jt fav ridden by Niall Houlihan). It maintains Moore’s place as Fontwell’s top trainer. Now it remains to be seen when Fontwell will race again.
