Hockey: Priory ladies beaten at Brighton
Brighton were on the chase from the start and didn’t give Chi any time to settle on the ball. Brighton had the majority of possession and Chichester couldn’t get out of their half.
Fifteen minutes in, B&H were awarded a short corner. It was initially dealt with but a shot came in but hit a defender’s foot right on the line so the umpire had no choice but to award a penalty flick, from which they scored.

Hide AdIt was an unfortunate start and as Chichester desperately defended at times, Brighton got their second.
In the second half, Chi knew they had to step up and be counte. There was tighter control but confidence was low and much as they tried, they couldn’t quite match their opposition. Chi showed resilience and had some great passages of play which almost led to a goal.
B&H passed well but were thwarted for a time by the Chi defence and midfield, but the third goal was on the cards.
It turned out to be a controversial one – there was a scramble near the Chichester goal, the ball was pushed towards goal, two defenders were trying to prevent it going in and they thought they had been successful – but the umpire decided it had gone over the line.
Chichester march on to Horsham this week.

* Chi ladies seconds drew 1-1 at home to Brighton & Hove threes. They were short of players and this was a great result for them, especially as they started with just eight players on the pitch. Great credit goes to stand-in captain Sarah Pack.
