Harriers dominate in Marathon Weekend

Over 1000 runners took part in the three days where the races on trails, roads, fields and paths totalled 26.2 miles - the classic marathon distance.
The Harriers had an impressive number of runners out over 10 miles in East Grinstead and Haywards Heath and 10km in Burgess Hill. The Club won male and female team prizes over the weekend, with Kim Lo second lady in Burgess Hill and Ben Gibson third in Haywards Heath. Michael Burke, Phil Payne, Rob Coomber, Matt Quinton and Chris Glanfield took on all three races.

Hide AdElsewhere Marcus Kimmins won the Three Forts Challenge Half Marathon in a brilliant time of 1:27.46 just two weeks after his Brighton Marathon efforts. His winning margin was close to two minutes on the tough hilly course over the South Downs. Tim Hicks (1:44.18) also had a storming race to finish first in the Vet 50 category and was delighted to collect some silverware.
In the full marathon over 27 miles, Kat Barrett was sixth lady in 4:18.45 having run the London Marathon last weekend.
The Harriers held its 50th Anniversary Open Track & Field Meeting at K2 Athletics Arena, Crawley on Thursday 28th April. In chilly conditions, the events was a huge success with participation from clubs across the South. There were some great Harrier performances and wins from Wilem Robinson (U15B 100m, 200m), Oliver Simpson (9/10B Long Jump) and Tristan Coe (Men’s shot).
Last weekend, The Harriers took part in last weekend’s Youth Development League as part of Team Sussex in Southampton. Darja Knotkova-Hanley starred by winning the U17W 3km by 120m. Simeon Cousins also ran well following injury and Christian Lambert and Jake Ridley both achieved personal best performances. Matt Holbrook is coming back to form and Katie Grant ran her heart out in all her events as ever.
