Rye reflect on successful season
The first team won the Sussex RUR Charity Cup for the first time since 1968, came third in Sussex County Football League Division One and reached the John O’Hara League Cup semi-finals.
Rye’s second team consolidated their promotion from Sussex County League Reserve Section (East) in 2010/11 with a very respectable top half finish in Reserve Section (Premier).

Hide AdAnd the under-16s marked their first season playing under the name of Rye United by finishing third in Sussex Sunday Youth League Division One and losing on penalties in the semi-finals of the Sussex John Davey Cup.
The new Rye United FC Clubhouse was also built during the 2011/12 campaign and it was nice for the club to hand out its awards at its own base rather than having to hire an alternative venue.
Sam Adams, a high profile signing from Hastings United last summer, scooped the first team players’ player accolade having been one of four men to hit the 20-goal mark, two of which came in the RUR Cup final win over Selsey.
Popular defender Phil Rhodes was the supporters’ player, Luke Woodley was manager’s player, Matt Maclean was the leading scorer, Duncan McArthur scored the goal of the season and Joe Winchester was the young player.

Hide AdLuke Ridgway picked up the reserve team players’ player and manager’s player honours, Darren Warne was supporters’ player, Callum Smith was the young player and manager Neil Winton netted the goal of the season.
Bright Temba - who played for Sussex at under-16 and under-18 level, and attended a trial with Leyton Orient during a remarkable season - was players’ player for the under-16s, Tyler Mole was manager’s player and Sam Foulkes was the most improved player.
