Here, Albion historian Ian Hine gives us his top 15 players signed from overseas clubs. Some classy, some controversial but all memorable.
1. Bruno 236 apps, 6 goals (2012-2019)
One of the most popular players to ever wear the stripes. Signed from Valencia in June 2012 and became a model of consistency over subsequent campaigns in the Championship and Premier League. Retired at the end of the 2018/19 and now has a vital role in Graham Potters backroom team.
2. Inigo Calderon 212 apps, 18 goals (2010-2016)
Signed from Spanish club Alaves. Missed just two games as the Seagulls swept to the League One title. Voted Player of the Season in 2014/15. Has a Masters Degree in sport psychology. Given a heros welcome as he returned as a guest against Wigan in April 2017.
3. Knockaert 127 apps, 25 goals (2016-present)
At Standard Lige when Chris Hughton signed him in. A genuine match winner on his day and voted EFL Player of the Year. Made 33 appearances in the first Premier League campaign, scoring three goals. Has joined Fulham on a season-long loan.
4. Maty Ryan 100 appearances (2017-present)
Signed from Belgian club Genk in June 2017, where he was on loan from parent club Valencia. Played every minute of Albions first Premier League season and endeared himself to fans with exuberant celebrations, often involving running the length of the pitch.
