After being asked to bat, both David Wainwright and Andrew Mamoany top-scored with 19 as Portslade were bundled out for just 102 in 32.5 overs.
With their backs against the wall and a spot in second up for grabs, Tom Stewart-Green’s five wickets helped dismiss Mayfield for 88.

Hide AdSkipper Paul Glover admitted it was an amazing day for his side, who now leapfrog their opponents and move up a spot to second with five games to go.
He said: “We’ve done it several times in the past few seasons but this was one of our best.
“The total we posted was not good and we didn’t bat well.
“But Thomas inspired us to a vital victory and one that gives us a great deal of confidence.”
Things started badly for Portslade with Wainwright the only batsman in the top eight to reach double figures.

Hide AdMamoany hit 19 down the order, while Nick Clark struck 11 to add some late innings runs for Portslade.
Glover’s side needed early wickets and they got those to leave Mayfield in all sorts of trouble.
Robert Sharma (36 not out) had threatened to get his side over the line but Portslade held their nerve to record an unlikely victory.
Stewart-Green finished with figures of 5-37, while Glover took four wickets.

Hide AdWith five games to go, Portslade now occupy the second and final promotion place but Glover does not want his side to look too far ahead.
He added: “We just want to take each game as it comes and see where that gets us.
“We are in a great position and it’s much better to be looking up rather than down.
“We’ve got Burgess Hill away next, who are top, so we haven’t got it easy.

“We’ve played well this season and just want to keep on this run.”
