Hide AdDespite the strong winds, a good turnout of Solos came to the line for the Late Trophy race seven on the Sunday.
A very close race ensued for first and second places with Barclay and Bill Dawber changing places up the first beat.
However, it was Barclay’s many years of experience which won through in the end.
He slipped over the shallow bank at Copperas point, cutting the corner to the windward mark and establishing a lead which Dawber could not claw back.
Purdy led the chasing pack to gain third place.

But Barclay, needing another race to qualify for the series, joined the handicap fleet.
His win in that race means the overall results for the Solo Late Trophy series saw Dawber claim first place, Barclay second and Malcolm Buchanan third.
For the 2000 Late Trophy race seven, Anne and Jim Norfolk took first place followed by Roy and Beryl Dyton, and Sarah Greenhalgh and David Ellis in third.
