A vintage week for Haywards Heath Harriers
Most notably however was a silver medal for Laura Penfold, Lucie Venables, Brittany Croydon-Kempster and Sian Hamilton in the 400 x 100m relay at the Sussex Track and Field Championships at K2, Crawley. Full results are at the end of this report.
Rye 10 mile
Tom Mullen took a brilliant victory in the Sussex Grand Prix Rye 10 mile race through the quiet lanes outside the town. The Harriers also collected a host of titles and bottles of wine for their efforts.

Hide AdMullen was over a minute quicker than the second place finisher with his time of 1:01.39 on this undulating course. “It was hot and hilly which made it challenging. Although the field wasn’t as strong as it could have been, I am delighted to get my first Sussex Grand Prix and first road race win.”
Jack Chivers was ninth in 1:05.43 and Michael Burke 16th in 1:07.19, the three men collecting the team title. Kim Lo (1:07.49) was second lady, adding to her silverware in a brilliant season so far. Kat Barrett (1:13.04) was fifth lady home.

Beach run
Lo picked up another win this week in the Littlehampton Beach Run, finishing the 5m race in 31:33. Paul Cousins was seventh overall with his excellent time of 29:11 and Julian Boyer ran well in 31.22.

Hide AdAs part of the West Sussex Fun Run League, the event is unique in its beach course which heads along the coast towards Worthing and back.
Lo said: “It was a beautiful sunny evening on the beach and nice to run on the sand but I found the shingle sections tough. I had a good battle with Julian which kept me running hard and was pleased with another Fun Run League win.”

Lindfield 10k Village Run & 5k Family Fun Run
Lindfield’s King Edward Hall hosted its annual Village Runs on Bank Holiday Monday over a challenging and multi-terrain cross country course with the event enjoying a bumper turnout and sunny conditions.

Hide AdIn the 10k run, which was 10.6k in reality, Michael Burke was first Harrier home, finishing off a successful weekend to finish fifth in 45:50, closely followed by Steve Dallman (46:09). Julian Boyer continued to show form, clocking 46:54 to finish ninth. Barry Tullett (47:12) was 12th and Ben Adams (48:35) 19th.
Abigail Redd was 20th in the 5k in 24:25.

parkruns
In the Clair parkrun, there were fantastic wins and personal best times for this hilly course for Rob Watts (18:25) and Abigail Redd (22:48). The Harriers also secured five of the top six places. Further afield in the Preston park parkrun, Barry Tullett clocked his first sub-19 5k to finish in 18:54. Paul Tomlinson finished third in the Tilgate parkrun in a personal best of 16:57.
