Town under fire for not flying the flag during Royal Wedding

Rye Mayor John Breeds admitted he had received a complaint on the morning of the wedding, while Cllr Granville Bantick said he too was aware of complaints.

The Mayor said the lead covered trap door which led to the Town Hall roof was heavy but that he had previously managed to attach a flag without the need to climb out onto the roof.
The council agreed that it would be better to have more flexibility over when it could fly the Union Jack from the Town Hall and has appointed Cllr Shaun Rogers to draft a revised policy.
Rye was criticised at the time for the lack of events organised to mark the wedding.
