Shoreham charity The Wave Project has been shortlisted for the Brighton and West Hove Sainsburys stores' charity of the year scheme.

The Wave Project helps children and young people improve their emotional health and resilience through an evidence based programme of surfing and paddleboarding combined with mentoring.

Antionette Hage, volunteer project coordinator, said: “We’re just so stoked! As a small local charity, potential support from Sainsburys could make a massive difference to the number of sessions we can provide to children and young people across Brighton and Hove”.

The Wave Project are urging the local community to back the project by visiting either the Brighton New England Street store and the West Hove store to vote, or voting online at www.sainsburyslocalcharity.co.uk.

Over the last two years, the project has supported many children and young people with a mental health issue, learning difficulty or physical disability.

In the words of one parent, “The sea helps my son to self-regulate and reduces sensitivity associated with his sensory processing difficulties. He loves the fun of surfing with the volunteers and instructors and it has helped him gain confidence and trust in new people”.
