Shoreham Wordfest Poetry Competition inspired by late poet

The works of the late Ted Walker, a prize-winning English poet who was educated in Steyning, featured in the recent the Adur Festival Poetry Trail.
Now, people are being urged to use his poetry to inspire their own for the competition.

Hide AdBarbara Meredith, from the Wordfest team, said: “It involves taking a line, sentence or phrase from any of the Ted Walker poetry extracts that featured in the trail, and composing your own poem on any subject.”

The free competition is open until July 31, with cash prizes in two categories – 16 to 18 years old, 19 years old and over, which will be awarded at the poetry and short story event on October 11.
Other highlights from this year’s Shoreham Wordfest, which runs from the end of September to October 11, include the world première of one-man show Roll Over Atlantic by John Agard at the Ropetackle Arts Centre on October 7.
