Planning approval has been granted by Mid Sussex District Council for a Waitrose supermarket with restaurant space and a new multi-storey car park for shoppers and commuters.
As part of the scheme, the layout at the front of the station will be altered with new taxi ranks, and the exterior of the station building will be refurbished.
Commenting on the £1million improvements inside the station complex, Southern’s managing director Chris Burchell said: “Haywards Heath station had for some time been in need of improved facilities so we have delivered not only what our passengers asked us to, but much more besides.”
Town mayor, John Sabin, marked the improvements by cutting a ribbon.
