Police galvanized into action on metal thefts
The operation was aimed at catching travelling criminals who come into Rother in order to commit a range of crimes from burglaries to the ever-increasing offence of metal theft.
To tackle this, police targeted vehicles carrying scrap metal as well as any other waste material.

Hide AdLocal officers were supported by the force’s road policing operations team, The Vehicle Operator Standards Agency (VOSA), the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), and enforcement officers from both Rother District Council and Hastings Borough Council to deal with unregistered waste carriers.
Police dealt with a number of different offences during the operation ranging from minor road traffic offences through to an overladen delivery lorry that had to unload a large amount of its cargo before being allowed to continue.
Chief Inspector Trevor Botting, Rother district police commander, said; “This operation has shown the effectiveness of multi-agency working, and we intend to conduct more operations like it.
“Now this plan is in place it can be used anywhere and effectively to target those people who use the road network to commit crime”.
