The incident happened shortly before 10am this morning, Monday, September 7, when the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing in Woodchurch, Ashford. It is believed the vintage fighter plane was being tested ahead of taking part in the Goodwood Revival air displays this coming weekend, according to reports. Paramedics assessed the pilot but he was said to be unscathed and no other injuries were reported. One of the Spitfire’s wings was torn off and the propellers were damaged and a large amount of fuel leaked out. The pilot reported engine problems shortly after take-off which forced him to down the aircraft. A spokesman for Kent Police said: “Police were called to a field in Woodchurch, Ashford at 9.50am this morning, following a report that a small plane had crashed. “It is reported that the pilot of the plane, believed to be a Spitfire, was uninjured in the incident.” In the aftermath of the Shoreham Airshow disaster, which claimed 11 lives, Goodwood said its air displays at its Revival festival would still go ahead along with the vintage motor racing.
