Not only did members of the Fairlight Preservation Trust provide £75,000 - raised mainly by voluntary donations from villagers and local clubs - they also drove forward the necessary engineering and financial work Rother District Council needed to obtain central government finance. We owe the trustees and all who contributed a debt of gratitude.
I would like to add my special and personal thanks to Fairlight Parish Councillors who, while I was chairman, also decided to contribute £75,000.

Hide AdThis was a momentous decision for a parish with no history of borrowing. I am grateful to councillors for their courage and resolution on such a difficult matter and for the practical help given by our clerks.
We must remain vigilant to ensure our defences are maintained.
