The consultation did prove representative
I FEEL that I must provide an answer to Mr L Frizzel's letter of December 19.
I think that he has got the wrong end of the stick as to where I'm coming from.

Hide AdI am strongly against the waste of money on the seafront development, just because 'we' have a 1m grant from someone or another.
It is still going to cost the Rother taxpayers shedfulls of money, in a time of general financial restraint by all but the Labour Government and most of the rest of the public sector as pointed out by Mr. Jack Seabrook in his letter also of December 19.
Ignoring the Conservative Party advice suits our council, because they can 'blame' the Labour Government for following its policies when it all goes horribly wrong and costs a lot more than planned for (already?).
I do not think that we should 'roll over', but think that SOS are doing a fine job in their lobbying of the various councillors and others.

Hide AdThe council claim that the 'consultation' was not representative of the population, probably because they did not get the response that they would have wished for.
I maintain that it was representative, and represented the thoughts of those of us who could be bothered to go along and commit our thoughts to the ambiguous, biased questions asked.
Even if one or two did upset the DLWP staff, at least it showed that they felt strongly about it.

End of high street?
CAN WE make 2009 the year that local people support local shops and businesses. Otherwise I fear that this year could mark the end of the high street as we know it.

Hide AdBring back the wartime spirit, let's all get together and keep this town of ours-ours - not some faceless multi-national carbon copy of every high street in the country.
Use your fruit and veg shop, Use your local butcher, baker and any one else maker. Come on everyone let's do our bit

Memorable day
MAY I through your paper thank The Italian Way for giving us such a great day as a result of the advertisement in the Bexhill Observer for nominees for specific thanks for their kindness to other people.
I nominated Louise, who is a wonderful lady. In spite of being nearly 90 she is always willing to help others and she was so excited to get the invitation and I was surprised also to get invited and we had such a special time.

Hide AdWe were made welcome with a drink and the three-course Christmas dinner was superb.
Then before going over to the De La Warr Pavilion for a family Christmas concert we were all given a lovely hamper, which contained biscuits, tea, coffee and four different jams.
It was such a memorable day, so many thanks to Karen and Lucca Venditta and all the lovely staff at The Italian Way.

Open Christmas
STUDENTS at St Richard's Catholic College have raised the magnificent sum of 1,500 for the Surviving Christmas 2008 Appeal. Even though they have loyally and generously supported the charity every year, this time they have surpassed all expectations.
Eileen Kidby, vice-chair of Surviving Christmas, attended the school to receive the cheque and said she felt quite humbled that this amount had been raised by the young people. In addition they had also collected a large amount of food for the hampers to be given out by the charity over Christmas and also many good items for presents to accompany the hampers.

Hide AdWe hear so much bad news about young people that I would like to publicise the good work and kind generosity of St Richard's students and I know that Surviving Christmas is not the only charity they support.
Well done St Richard's and thank you.
Surviving Christmas would also like to thank the children of Birkdale Hall Nursery, Blacklands, Silverdale, Little Ridge Avenue, St Leonards Church of England, Dudley Infants and The Grove schools who have all given food, gifts or donations to the appeal.
Surviving Christmas has hired the YMCA for its three-day Open Christmas which began on Christmas Day and continues today (Boxing Day) and December 27. Each day opens at 10am and a warm welcome awaits anyone lonely or homeless at this festive time.

Curse of party politics
FIRST of all, let us remember that our councillors are our servants, not our masters, and the position that they occupy is in the gift of the electors. We, who elect the councillors, are the victims of the curse of party politics in local government.

Can I have some?
IN response to Paul Minter's (of Gunters Lane) letter, can I have some of whatever he's on? Merry Christmas to one and all.
