It was with complete disbelief that I read in the Gazette that plans are being put forward by Rustington Football Club for the erection of permanent stands and floodlighting on the Woodlands Recreation Ground.

As I understood, this matter was put to rest by the agreement made on April 20, 2007, and the addendum to the same, dated May 14, 2007, made between the parish council and the Rustington Football Club.

As for all the local residents having received a letter from the football club, as stated in the Gazette – to date we are still waiting for it.

Do the football club not realise that the Woodlands Recreation Ground was donated to the parishioners of the Rustington area for all recreational use (youth clubs, Scouts, cricket club and many other clubs and organisations), and not just themselves?

Most of the support they will receive will come from outside the area – even the chairman of the football club lives outside the Rustington area.

I think it will be a sad day if we lose one of the last remaining green spaces in Rustington because of one club’s desires.
