Letter: Blood donation is still important
Falling during National Blood Week (June 10 to 16) Donor Day recognises the birthday of Dr Karl Landsteiner who discovered the ABO blood group in 1901.
Blood donation and blood grouping are as important as ever. Hospitals across England and North Wales need around 7,000 units of blood every day, and it is vital that NHS Blood and Transplant collects the right amount of the different blood groups to provide the blood patients rely on to survive.
