Doing a fine job
I am no fan of gulls, but the thought of it dying slowly by drowning as the tide came in was upsetting to my wife. I went over to the lifeguards' station and asked if they rescued gulls as well as people – and they did!
In a matter of minutes, armed with towel and gloves, they waded out and freed the bird, which had been hooked in the beak.

The guards took it in their stride, but obviously do a sterling job rescuing humans and animals. Well done!
