Marjory, who was a medic, explained: “He was our training instructor.”

The couple celebrated their anniversary by having a meal with friends, rather than a party. Marjory said they chose this because they had had big celebrations for both their golden and diamond wedding anniversaries.
Kathy, who lives in Armidale, Australia, sent 70 roses to mark the special occasion and the couple were also delighted to receive a 70th wedding anniversary congratulations message from the Queen.
The date of their wedding anniversary has taken on even greater significance over the years, as Jennifer, Kathy and one of their seven grandchildren were all born the same day, while Marjory’s birthday is the next day.
