Shopkeepers suffered badly over the first weekend of the closedown, when traffic was routed on a long diversion round Arundel.

This week the Highways Agency said further dry weather this weekend and during the next closure, from October 10-13, could enable the work to be completed without further shutdowns scheduled for later in October/November.
However, wet conditions could lead to the extra weekend working being necessary.
