Haywards Heath charity which offers a '˜good neighbour' needs more volunteers
A spokesman said: “Never before has there been such concern for older people in our society. There are increasing numbers of our community who are unable to get out of their homes to visit the doctors, hospitals and dentists.
“Getting to the shops for life’s necessities is a problem for many. Recent press reports tell us that growing numbers of infirm or retired people never speak to or meet other members of their communities for weeks on end.

“Many Middy readers are retired, active and car drivers who might be looking for ways to use their gifts and to be involved in rewarding ‘work’ especially on those days where their diary is empty.”
The charity, which covers Haywards Heath, Cuckfield, Lindfield, Ardingly and nearby villages, currently has 130 volunteers, which are not enough to accommodate all of its clients.
A spokesman added: “Volunteers can offer as much or as little time as suits them and when it suits them. Even one hour a week would be helpful.”
