Principal Caroline Barlow said: “Many homes and workplaces these days are likely to possess at least one Apple product. Two years ago we took the step of ensuring that students developed the knowledge skills and understanding of how to use these devices to enhance their learning.”
After a visit from Apple’s UK education business development manager Clare Smith, students and teachers are pleased to learn the College can work towards the coveted status which is only held by just 12 schools in the country.

Hide AdDuring the visit Clare Smith went into lessons, spoke to students and staff (including a teacher who has helped develop the use of iPads at the College) and said how impressed she was.
She explained: “it’s not all hail to the iPad, there was a lovely blend of use of books and pads in lessons. It’s important to use technology to enhance and transform learning in ways that would not otherwise be possible.”
Students were clear this was exactly what happened in their lessons, describing apps and programmes used in lessons such as PE, science, RE and English among others.
One student said “it makes learning quicker and deeper as the learning in class is more focused.” Another student explained the use of technology enabled her to create and review her science work independently to the extent that her subsequent test score had gone up a whole level as a result. Caroline Barlow said: “We are delighted the work of the college so far has been recognised. We are keen to ensure the use of technology provides a creative and innovative environment that equips our students for their future. Using this framework to ensure a measurable impact will be motivating and empowering for all in our community.”
