1066 anniversary: New statue put in place

Renowned Kent-based sculptor Guy Portelli’s masterpiece will be officially unveiled on November 11.
The statue will depict a Norman soldier on horseback being attacked by a lone Saxon, an opening scene from the Battle of Hastings.

Hide AdThe statue, which is being crowdfunded to the tune of £41,000, has been dubbed ‘the people’s monument’ by Battle mayor David Furness, who spearheaded the campaign to bring the statue to the town.
