Booggle, which is written and produced by students at Thomas Bennett Community College (TBCC), Tilgate, took the Best Community Initiative prize at the Shine School Media Awards.
Charlotte Simmons, who has been editor of the magazine for three years, was highly commended for her work.

Charlotte and her team – Chloe Barrett, Priyanka Kundalia and Lamya Miya – were also highly commended for their environmental strategy which has seen them only publish the magazine online.
This was the third time TBCC had entered the awards, which enable pupils studying English, art & design and information technology to put their media and communications achievements in the national spotlight.
They won one award last year – for Best Environmental Strategy – and Wendy said: “This year the students were excited to receive three awards and hope to build on this in the future.

“They have been evolving the magazine style over five years now using more vibrant colours, altering the name, taking original photos and writing topical articles.”
The awards were held on June 22 at the Stationers Hall, in London, where the students met journalists, editors, and directors from the media industry and took part in workshops which Wendy said would help the magazine to improve and become more professional.
Wendy’s pride in her students was swelled even more with the knowledge the majority of the 25 schools which reached the final were sixth-form colleges, grammar schools or private schools.
