Plot of land in Eastbourne housing estate to be auctioned off is ‘madness’
The piece of land, on the corner of Pocock’s Road and Burton Road at the Rodmill, is on the market for £15,000 with auctioneers Barnard Marcus and will go under the hammer on February 3 at a Covent Garden venue at 10.30am.
Residents who live near to the land have voiced their concerns.

Here we are in the world, it is dying, everybody is saying we need to plant trees and they are here chopping them down. We get the impression the authorities don’t care.
“I said to my neighbour ‘imagine if they built a five storey block of flats there, it would be an eyesore’. It would have to be bungalows.”
Janice O’Connell, who lives in Pocock’s Road, said, “It’s terrible. If they start building on that bit of land when does it stop?
“We can’t lose all of our green spaces in Eastbourne. I don’t want it. I feel quite upset actually, I can’t believe they are going to do away with a spare bit of green land. We have got enough houses here, we are spoiling Eastbourne.”

George Evans, of Pocock’s Road, said, “I am a bit surprised it’s going to go for that money but things do move on and change. It was only announced last week that the auction is taking place. But I can’t deprive someone of a house. We can’t deprive people of somewhere to live.”
Kathleen Morrison, of Burton Road, said, “This is a little bit of England, we can’t have it all built up, the little dogs come here. We need the trees.”
Ratton ward councillors say they are all opposed to the land being developed on and will use their resources to try and prevent it from happening.
