The iconic Webb Ellis trophy made a stop at The Triangle in Burgess Hill as part of its official tour in the lead up to the Rugby World Cup 2015. Together with Burgess Hill Rugby Football Club, The Triangle hosted a celebratory fun day that was enjoyed by an estimated 1,000 people from across Sussex.
Alongside an unforgettable opportunity to get up close to the trophy and have a picture taken, the free day offered families the opportunity to learn more about rugby and get involved with rugby themed activities. Walking rugby proved a particular success with hundreds of children and older generations taking part in an innovative, new, slower, no contact version of the game.

With the trophy being so well recognised internationally, we used the opportunity of the trophy being in Burgess Hill to encourage both children and adults to try out rugby activities.”
As well as a photo with the trophy, visitors left the day with an additional knowledge of the sport in anticipation of the first game, England v Fiji, on 18th September.
Simon Lashley, Junior Chairman at Burgess Hill Rugby Football Club said “The Trophy Tour has been a massive success for Burgess Hill Rugby Club and we are delighted to have shared this with Places for People. We hope to build on this success going forward and working with the schools in the new term, hope to get more participation going into what will be a huge year for ‘England Rugby’.”
Burgess Hill Rugby Club kick off the season on the 6th Sept for Juniors and welcome all ages from 5 to 15 from 10am at Poveys Close.
