Ireland’s finest on the way to Rye Arts Festival
Altan are one of Ireland’s top traditional bands – the first to sign to a major label, Virgin – and have been bringing Irish language songs and instrument style to a global audience since 1987.
Their last album The Widening Gyre has been seen some change in direction. After nearly 35 years together they worked with Compass co-founder Garry West and fused the traditional Irish music they are known for, namely Donegal fiddling and Gaelic singing traditions, with American roots music, particularly that of the Appalachian bluegrass fiddle.
